Paramore ‘Misery Business’ For Orchestra by Walt Ribeiro
“I’m in the business of misery”
One of my favorite bands in recent memory is Paramore. I like their style, high energy, female vocals, lyrics, and acoustic sets. My sister has been a big fan for a while, so I couldn’t wait to arrange this song of theirs, and it turned out awesome.
As one of the few bands that has huge success but still manages to have that Indie feel and acceptance, it’s no wonder they have over 500,000 diehard followers. Misery Business is their single off their second album, Riot, and it was so much fun to arrange.
We’ve all been there: wanting something, finally getting it, and appreciating it. It feels so good to have it and know that its yours. The lyricism creates tension, desire, and jealousy. I think about this in my own life. I think about how something that can make us so happy can leave others so miserable. Someone is always bound to get hurt, and someone is always bound to win.
The thing about misery business is that we’ve all been hurt. But you learn from it, and that’s what life is about. The beauty I get from this song is that both sides grow from it – the winner gets the prize, and the other becomes smarter and stronger.
So I wanted the drums to really cut through, be mean, and create rage. It’s the perfect cure to one’s misery, and I like that.
i’m creating a new word called “kittycrush” a kittycrush is when you like someone so much all you want to do with them is make strange noises and cuddle and spend half your life sleeping on their favorite possessions
